Comments: The "letters" and "signs" are of magical origin and based on old arabic writing, mixed with mystical signs. Ultimately a mix of the saharan Magic-Tradition and protective African rituals. Such rings are generally against the "Evil Eye", but also a protection against Djinns, a believe widespread in the Sahara. He is further worn to protect against sickness, insuries, but is of special value for all TRAVELLERS - of great importance to nomads and caravans! I will add some five such magical rings to the shop, but this one, due to its 49 "letters + signs" is smallest size and perfect execution. Though this piece is roundabout 70-80 years of age, the first such type rings were already known in the Middle Ages in the 13th-14th century! Known all over the Islamic world, this one is a product of a Tuareg Silversmith ("Mallem"). Since I bought this ring - and all other pieces in my little webshop - in Mederdra, a little town in Mauritanias South, the specimen is definitely from the West-Sahara and not Iran/Iraq, where such designs are widespread too. Truely a sweet ring, especially when worn.
